New Star Trek Trailer…Come Geek With Me
If you haven’t seen it yet, here ya go…watch, and we shall discuss:
My thoughts:
- Kid that stole my vintage Corvette + driving it off a cliff in the future = big time grounded. Even if your name IS James Tiberius Kirk.
- I love the quick shots of some MASSIVE buildings looming in the mist over the horizon.
- Kirk drives up on his bike to see a starship being built. Is it the Enterprise? Maybe. But this is where the hard-core geeks are probably getting upset. As I recall, according to the original Star Trek “canon”, the Enterprise was built in space at an orbiting shipyard.
- Spock’s mom is Winona Ryder. Sweet.
- Really quick shot of Spock appearing with some CGI lines and swirls whirling around him. Is this the transporter effect? If so, hard-core upset number two.
- Dude. Zachary Quinto is a good Spock.
- The bridge of the Enterprise looks like an Apple Store.
- Quick shots of things blowing up. Always an important thing in a movie for me.
- Apparently, Kirk and Spock aren’t good buddies right away. Interesting.
- Uhura takes off her shirt. I’m sure there’s a very important plot point that needs this to happen for dramatic effect. Yeah, that’s it. (Personally, I’m glad Nichelle Nichols never took off HER shirt. That would have been disturbing on many levels)
- Scotty says “I like this ship! It’s exciting!” - Simon Pegg brings the comic relief. He should be a good Scotty.
- Couple of quick shots of Sulu kicking butt.
- Dr. McCoy says “Space is disease and danger wrapped in darkness and silence.” - wow. Deep. Then there’s a quick shot of Karl Urban (Eomer in “Lord Of The Rings”) delivering the end of that line. Dude…he’s a REALLY good McCoy! Even looks like him!
- Okay, then there’s a quick shot of a monster. I froze the trailer and checked it out. I’m pretty sure it’s a cousin of the monster from Cloverfield, except he’s smaller and red. Makes sense. Why spend all that money on a monster and only use him in one movie?
- Uh oh. Kirk in his underpants. And he’s not alone. Apparently, there’s gonna be sex on the Enterprise. Who knew?
- More things blowing up. Good. I need that to forget Kirk in his underpants.
- Eric Bana as a Romulan, just back from an appearance on L.A. Ink. “The wait is over”. Good line.
- I really like that Abrams is using the old school Starfleet insignia and original Star Trek typeface. Nice little music notes, reminiscent of the original theme.
Okay, I’m officially excited. I’m not so hard-core that I’m freaking out about Abrams taking some liberties with the back story. I don’t have costumes hanging in my closet and blueprints of the Enterprise on my desk.
But I’ve loved all things Star Trek since I was a kid (okay, not ALL things. I thought Voyager was dumb. And Star Trek V - The Final Frontier was just about the worst movie EVER made. But other than those few things, yeah. Everything else.). Therefore, I am SO pumped about this movie.

Oh man I was so excited by this trailer that it almost ruined Quantum of Solace for me! I’ve seen them all as well but also don’t have any uniforms in my closet
I too am totally digging the tension between Kirk and Spock! I think they did an incredible job with the cast! Not too Abercrombie & Fitch with the young guys and Urban, Bana, and Pegg are awesome!
I was pretty stoked about the score from the trailer as well! One thing I’m not liking about Fringe is it’s the EXACT SCORE from LOST. Come on Abrams, change it up just a tad!
I’m curious to see what the ’speeder bikes’ flying down the side of some crazy building are going to be. The only apprehension I have after seeing this trailer is that I hope there’s not too TOO much taken from Star Wars
I just saw this trailer for the very first time this last weekend and I am so excited about this movie - Like none of the ones before. The actors they chose as children and teens look so similar to the real actors chosen - yes I am gonna totally geek with ya!
Nice blog ya got going on here as well!
