Sunday Retrospective - November 2, 2008
(This post is part of the Sunday Setlists blog carnival. Check out what other worship leaders are doing around the world…)
Well, I’m three days late posting this. Focused on national affairs, what can I say?
We moved the bulk of the worship set to the end of the service this past Sunday. We opened with only two songs, and then followed the sermon with four songs, moving from response to celebration. Pretty simple instrumentation: drums, bass, acoustic guitar, and keyboard. Three female vocalists and myself singing. Still missing Anna’s voice…her doctor says it’s at least one more month before she can start slowly working her way back into singing.
Our opening set:
Come, Now Is The Time To Worship (Brian Doerksen) - Can’t go wrong with a classic
All The Earth Will Sing Your Praises (Paul Baloche) - And this one will be a classic years from now.
Closing set:
Desperation (Paul & Anna Joseph) - I sure would like to record this one of these days
Offering (Paul Baloche) - This song can be used in so many ways. It’s a great response song
Lord Of The Heavens (Shaun & Mel Griffiths) - Old one from Parachute Band
Majestic (Lincoln Brewster) - Rock the house to close it out
Negatives? Well, it’s rather disheartening to be singing “Come, Now Is The Time To Worship”, and from the stage you can’t hear the first 10 rows singing because they’re being drowned out by the last 10 rows talking. One of these days, either folks will “get it”…or we’ll find a way to deal with those who don’t.
Positives? I really enjoyed worshiping the Lord. And that’s always a good thing. Bottom line, I’m the best worship leader when I’m truly worshiping. And I was.
