Sunday Retrospective - October 26, 2008

(This post is part of the Sunday Setlists blog carnival. Check out what other worship leaders are doing around the world…)

In our continuing efforts to change things up and keep them fresh, another different sound yesterday. The instruments were just drums, bass, and keyboard. We used a small ensemble of ten vocalists, rather than individual singers on mic. Couldn’t tell at all what things sounded like from onstage, but apparently the house mix was good. Our worship set (with links to iTunes if available):

Rise Up And Praise Him (Paul Baloche / Gary Sadler) - It’s an old song (1996 to be precise) but there aren’t many better songs to open a worship set.
Come Thou Fount, Come Thou King (Public Domain / additional lyrics by Thomas Miller) - from Gateway Worship. This is one of my top five best hymn re-works of all time.
Let Us Fix Our Eyes (Paul & Anna Joseph) - Hebrews 12:2-3, set to a mid-tempo groove.
I Will Run To You (Darlene Zschech) - Another song from 1996. We must have gotten stuck in the Wayback Machine. Anyway, beautiful music from Hillsong. We let the congregation just listen to this one.
In Christ Alone (Stuart Getty / Keith Townend) - This will probably be one of the three or four current songs that survive and show up in hymnals in about 100 years. If they have hymnals.

On a personal note, I really had a hard morning yesterday. Felt totally disconnected…work irritations, worrying about my mom, a bunch of stuff I guess. But God gave me a nice gift in the Pastor Appreciation dinner last night. Anna and I had a great time reading through all the cards and notes we received. Very, very encouraging…a needed breath of oxygen. Thanks, Fellowship.

How was your Sunday?

I know what you mean about having bad days…..sometimes I’m just not in the groove and I have no idea why. That’s tough when you’re the one in charge!!!
