Sunday Retrospective - August 24, 2008
(This post is part of the Sunday Setlists blog carnival. Check it out and see what’s going on in churches around the world…)
Yesterday was a pretty straight-ahead service. Attendance was down again…probably will be until after Labor Day. We displayed the paintings by Mike Lewis from last week…we’ll be putting them away for awhile, and then permanently displaying them somewhere.
Our worship set (links to iTunes where available):
Rock Of Ages You Will Stand (Paul Baloche / Brenton Brown) - From the new “Our God Saves” CD. Very nice Coldplay-ish intro, and old hymn lyrics set to a new tune. Had more than one person tell us that it forced them to really pay attention to the lyrics and hear them in a new way.
Arise (Paul Baloche / Don Moen) - We do the Don Moen arrangement (a breakdown singing “We lift You up on our praises”, then a key change into final chorus). Except we don’t do it so Don Moen-y (If Don is reading this blog, sorry to use your name as an adjective).
Blessed Be Your Name (Matt & Beth Redman) - We came out of this song into a congregational prayer time, led by one of the ladies in our prayer ministry. Coming out of the prayer, we had a guest do an interpretive movement/dance to a recording of “The Lords Prayer”. It was absolutely beautiful. Then we went right into…
Amazed (Jared Anderson) - I love the “How deep/How wide” bridge of this song.
Because Of Your Love (Paul Baloche / Brenton Brown) - From “A Greater Song”. We played this during the 5 minute countdown last week, and brought it back this week for people to sing. From what I could tell, folks were singing it well.
Our new pastor and his wife shared the stage to tell their life stories. I thought it was a really good thing. I was thinking back to other churches I’ve attended…a new pastor shows up, and he just starts preaching. It takes awhile to get to know them. I think by doing this, Jim has laid a foundation for what’s coming next.

Hey Paul,
Didn’t realize you had a new pastor - that’s a whole transition to deal with there! Looks like a set full of wonderful songs, though!
Thanks for being a part of Sunday Setlists!

Blessed Be Your Name is a modern classic in my mind. Big kudos for doing Jared Anderson’s Amazing. I love his stuff. So smooth.
Sunday was good. Pastor preached on “Kairos” which my studies and blog hold a lot of understanding for. It got me thinking again on the vertical meeting the horitzonal. I won’t go any deeper than that
Paul, your church website can beat up my church website. Your’s is like the zenith of cool in comparison. BUT we’re working on it.
WARNING: Viewers experience oxygen deprivation from laughing so hard.
PS: Love the “Amazed” action!

Having a relational Pastor is a good thing! They definitely have laid a good foundation. Our attendance was down too! Can’t wait for after Labor day!!!!
