Sunday Retrospective - August 10, 2008
(This post is part of the Sunday Setlist blog carnival at FredMcKinnon.com)
The first Sunday of a new era at Fellowship Dalton…Jim Suddath preached his first sermon.
And after about 10 months of 230 to 325 in attendance…we had 433 people. The sinful part of me wanted to get on the mic and say “So, where have YOU been for the past year?”. But I resisted.
Our worship set (links to iTunes where available):
Praise Your Name (Todd Fields) - This is a GREAT opener. Heck, it’s just a great song. If you’ve never heard it, click over and check it out.
Majestic (Lincoln Brewster) - Rockin’ in the free world.
Rock Of Ages, You Will Stand (Paul Baloche / Brenton Brown) - This is the fifth song we’ve added from Paul’s newest CD, “Our God Saves“. If you include his previous CD, the amazing “A Greater Song“, we’re currently singing TWELVE songs from Paul’s last two projects. That’s just crazy…and a wonderful indication of the kind of work Paul is doing for the local church. Blessings on him for sure.
Great Is Thy Faithfulness (Public Domain) - An original arrangement of the classic hymn. The first two verses are in C, but each ends in the relative Am. Then, moving from Am to A Major, we key change up to D for the final verse. It’s a really pretty arrangement, and the congregation sang this one tremendously.
In Christ Alone (Keith Getty / Stuart Townend) - We added the chorus from the hymn “The Solid Rock” after the second verse, then key change up for the third verse. Great arrangement.
We also included a couple of videos from SermonSpice.com to transition between two of the songs, and to highlight a sermon point.
Next week…Mike Lewis, “The Jesus Painter”, live in our worship service! It’s gonna be great!

How’s this for bizarre: we opened with ‘Praise Your Name’, as you already noted - but we also had ‘In Christ Alone’ programmed. Cut it in rehearsal Sunday a.m. due to time.
Are we thinking alike? Or what?
Weird….
I love “In Christ Alone” — the main arrangement I’ve ever heard/done of it was with “The Solid Rock” after verse 3, repeating “The Solid Rock” twice, but going up a key the second time & into the final verse of “In Christ Alone.” It’s similar to how Travis Cottrell does it on one of his CDs.

Nice idea for In Christ Alone. We haven’t done this one since Easter, so we’re about due to put it in the shuffle again.
