Sunday Retrospective - July 20, 2008
We arrived home from Ormond Beach around 7pm or so Saturday night. I came over to the church to get the stage set up and make sure everything was plugged in, so we could be ready to go Sunday morning.
Since we were out of town last week, there was no rehearsal. On weeks like this, Planning Center Online is such a great help…everyone on the team can listen to the songs, download lyrics and charts, and be ready to go…very important when you just have an hour to go over everything. It’s made our job so much easier.
Kind of a stripped-down sound yesterday; just bass, drums, me on keys, and four vocalists. Ben, the future son-in-law, came to church yesterday with Hannah, so we asked him to sit in on trumpet. It added a nice touch.
Our setlist (links to iTunes where available):
Hosanna (Paul Baloche / Brenton Brown) - I love using this song as an opener. The first line: “Praise is rising / Eyes are turning to You” - it also builds really well musically.
Psalm 63 (Andrew Wigston) - I wish I could send you to a recording of this song. We heard it about 10 years ago, from a Canadian praise band called Present Reality. I tried to find them on the web, and this is all there is…but if we ever have the chance to do a CD, we’re going to record it.
What Can I Do (Paul Baloche / Graham Kendrick) - Beautiful song of gratitude.
All Of My Days (Mark Stevens) - An old one from Hillsongs…lyrically, a great commitment of eternal praise.
And for communion:
Let Us Fix Our Eyes (Paul & Anna Joseph) - Sorry, this one hasn’t been recorded yet either. It’s basically Hebrews 12:2-3 set to music.
The Wonder Of The Cross (Vicky Beeching) - Wow. What an amazing communion song.
We also used a Willow Creek drama, “The Game Of Life“, to set up the sermon.
Two more weeks of our amazing interim pastor, Bobby McGraw, and then Jim Suddath will be here to start the next chapter of the life of our church…
