Surgery Update
Mom finally went into surgery after 5pm yesterday. The results are a mixed bag:
- She came through the surgery great…her vitals stayed strong, there were no problems. That was one of my biggest concerns.
- The mass in her throat was not as defined as the surgeon expected…there were not clear boundaries of good and bad tissue. So, he can’t be sure he got all of it.
- There was malignancy in the lab results…so if he didn’t get all of it, there could still be malignant cells in her throat.
They were going to keep Mom for 24 hours, but she had complications during the night (her tongue swelled, and she had difficulty breathing) so they’re keeping her for another day.
