Guys And Dolls

My lovely and talented daughter Hannah was in her college production of “Guys And Dolls” the past two weekends. We saw it twice. It was SO good and SO funny. I’m putting the original movie of the musical on my Blockbuster queue.

Hannah was a “Hot Box Girl”…one of the singers & dancers in the local speakeasy. That’s her on the right.

And tomorrow, I’m going to post about my OTHER lovely and talented daughter. So stay tuned.

I was a Hot Box Girl in our play in High School! She is precious….what fun!

sadly I was a salvation army band girl when in high school. while my parents were definitely pleased with that turn of events, everyone knew the Hot Box Girls were the coolest. :)

So cool! G&D is one of my all-time favorite shows.
The Midshipmen Glee Clubs just did it at USNA. I highly
recommend the original Broadway cast recording, with Robert
Alda (Alan’s dad) as Skye and the great character actor
Sam Levene as Nathan Detroit.

The movie omits several favorite
tunes: “Bushel and a Peck” (there’s a snatch of the end of it
in Adelaide’s first scene in the film), “Marry the Man Today,”
and my very favorite song in the whole show, Brother Arvide’s
Tender “More I Cannot Wish You” (a song every dad should
sing at his own daughter’s wedding).

Make sure you get a widescreen DVD. The pan and scan version
bites.

We gig in Atlanta tomorrow night (Cascade UMC); Thursday
night at the Airport Westin, for a convention of Afr-Am
college band directors.
