Mother Teresa’s Crisis Of Faith

Much is being said about the cover story of Time Magazine this week. A new book of Mother Teresa’s letters, “Come Be My Light“, is causing quite a stir due to the content of many of the letters.

The letters show a side of her that many would never have expected…a believer who doubted her call, her prayers…even the existence of God. Time trots out an atheist or two who take these letters as proof of the self-deception possible by Christians.

Read the article yourself. Get the book if you want. Personally, I’m encouraged, not disillusioned. If these letters had shown that Mother Teresa had constant communion with God, felt every one of her prayers were heard, and lived a shiny-happy-people existence, then what hope is there for us normal people? But she was normal…and so I take hope in my own crises of faith.

Even in the darkness, she stayed true to her calling, and touched the lives of untold thousands.

Thank you God, for being there when we don’t think You are. That’s called faithfulness.

Great post! I couldn’t agree more. It seems like we are always wanting the Mountain top experiences with God, when in fact most of our lives are lived in the valley…after all, that is where those who do not yet know Christ are. Perhaps God gives us the mountain tops to get us through and re-charge us for the real paces of life!

Paul,

Totally agree with you about being encouraged, not disillusioned. I am thankful that she wrote letters sharing her journey in life. Hope is a powerful four letter word..
